BRRL 007 Cheerleaders United: Electric Blue
b/w Out Of Heaven 7" single (vinyl only, but a very limited edition of promotional CDs is available) Release date: November 25, 2002

Cheerleaders United are a bunch of experienced indie rock veterans from Kouvola, Finland, led by Mr Timo Ranta, a man with a golden voice, who used to front a wonderful, but criminally ignored guitar pop band Going Public in the late 80's/early 90's. Already in Going Public he startled and shined in the vocals with his strong, deep voice and emotionally charged, heartfelt output.

Ranta is now back with a new group, partly presenting a more rocking power pop sound, partly exploring the same sort of influences and musical aspirations that Going Public did, i.e. grandiose and melodramatic Australian post-punk era pop a'la The Saints, The Triffids, The Church and even Nick Cave.

The a-side of this new single, majestic Electric Blue (following Cheerleaders' debut self-released CD-EP and appearance on last year's Meet The Scene compilation CD on Rhythm Barrel) is a combination of these two aspects of the band, resulting in a dramatic, even hypnotic, melodic rock tune with a mesmerizing drive and a sense of danger and doom. Flipside's Out Of Heaven, on the other hand, is a big, long, atmospheric ballad - very impressive, very hard to ignore.

Take this chance and get to know the Cheerleaders!
